Ms. Emch Greetings! My name is Heather Emch. This is the first year that I have the privilege of teaching at C.C. Spaulding Elementary School. I obtained my Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Erskine College in Due West, SC. Erskine is a small school located right in between several cow pastures, which is quite a different setting than our school here in Durham! During my previous years teaching I have gained specialized experience in teaching through inquiry (a model which teaches students how to question, research, and draw conclusions), project-based learning (a model which focuses largely on student application of learning through projects), and STEM integration (using Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics across all subject areas). I absolutely love all of these models of education, and I am excited to bring these experiences to C.C. Spaulding! However, I think the most important thing I have learned throughout my teaching experience is that simply educating students is not enough. We must teach students how to learn for themselves, how to love learning, how to use their education, and how to uphold high moral standards in their conduct. We must expect our students to succeed, and in so doing we will see them reach for the stars and accomplish things they could never dream!
